Comments on evolution of cooperation: assortative encounters with selfknowledge

چکیده

The theoretical description of the evolution of cooperation presented by Bergstrom based on assortative matching with partner choice allows to model the population dynamics in a game of Nonrepetitive Prisoners Dilemma. In this paper we present a short analysis of asymmetric effects brought into the game by self knowledge of the participants, that is the knowledge of one's own strategy. Within the same conceptual framework as introduced by Bergstrom inclusion of selfknowledge leads to different behaviour of the assortativity index and changes in payoffs for different strategies.

The Algebra of Assortative Encounters and the Evolution of Cooperation

This paper explores the quantitative relation between non random, assortative matching and the maintenance of cooperative behavior under evolutionary dynamics. We consider a population of individuals who are \hardwired” to play either cooperate or defect. They meet other individuals according to some random process and play their programmed strategy in a game of Prisoners’ Dilemma. The type tha...

Degree mixing in multilayer networks impedes the evolution of cooperation

Traditionally, the evolution of cooperation has been studied on single, isolated networks. Yet a player, especially in human societies, will typically be a member of many different networks, and those networks will play different roles in the evolutionary process. Multilayer networks are therefore rapidly gaining on popularity as the more apt description of a networked society. With this motiva...

Social dilemmas in an online social network: The structure and evolution of cooperation

We investigate two paradigms for studying the evolution of cooperation—Prisoner’s Dilemma and Snowdrift game in an online friendship network, obtained from a social networking site. By structural analysis, it is revealed that the empirical social network has small-world and scale-free properties. Besides, it exhibits assortative mixing pattern. Then, we study the evolutionary version of the two...

Effects on population divergence of within-generational learning about prospective mates.

Although learned mate preferences are suspected to have important effects during speciation, theoretical models have largely neglected the effects on speciation and population divergence of within-generational learning, that is, learning based upon prior experience with potential mates. Here, we use population genetic models to address this deficit. Focusing on the situation of secondary contac...

Simulations of assortative matching: complexity of cooperation emergence process

The paper studies the emergence and stability of cooperative behavior in populations of agents who interact among themselves in Prisoner's Dilemma games and who are allowed to choose their partners. The population is then subject to evolutionary pressures, based on individual payoffs from multiple encounters. A simple formula for signaling and recognition is introduced, which allows the agents ...
